UNC Asheville Men’s Tennis to Compete in ITA Carolina Regional Championship

CARY, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's tennis will next compete in the ITA Carolina Regional Championship Oct. 12-16 at the Cary Tennis Park.
UNC Asheville's Henry Patten is the defending singles champion at the event.
In the 2017 single finals, the regionally eighth-seeded Patten bested 15th-seeded Alex Favrot of Clemson, 6-3, 6-1. The regionally eighth-seeded Patten advanced to the ITA Carolina Regional final by besting 25th-seeded Simon Baudry of Clemson in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-2.
In winning the title at the ITA Carolina Regional last year, Patten bested players from Elon, NC State, UNCW, Coastal Carolina and Clemson.
Patten will begin his title defense seeded fifth. He will take on Julian Chousa of Wofford in the opening round.
UNC Asheville's Oli Nolan teamed up earlier this fall with Patten to claim the doubles title at the 51st Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Nolan will open up his efforts at the ITA Carolina Regional by taking on conference foe Johan Fors of Gardner-Webb in the opening round of singles.
UNC Asheville's Charlie Morkel will take on Henrik Atlevi of Furman in the first round.
Olly Cull will commence his efforts at the ITA Carolina Regional by taking on second-seeded Bar Botzer of Wake Forest.
The ITA Carolina Regional begins with 128 competitors in singles. The first day of action on Friday, Oct. 12 will feature the singles opening round and the round of 64.
Doubles play in the ITA Carolina Regional will get underway on Saturday, Oct. 13.
