ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Looking to make it five straight victories over Liberty, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team welcome the Flames to Asheville on Tuesday, Jan. 16 as the two squad will battle inside Kimmel Arena at 7 p.m.

About UNC Asheville
Despite their recent success in the second half, the Bulldogs showed they can score early in the 30-point win over the Lancers on Saturday (82-52). Asheville outscored Longwood 24-7 in the first 10 minutes and rode the momentum into halftime with a 40-18 lead, which is its largest halftime lead this season. The Bulldogs capped off the game with a 28-point fourth quarter to cruise to their third Big South win.
Three Bulldogs posted double digits in scoring as Khaila Webb led the way with 19 points. Bronaza Fitzgerald poured in 15 points, and Nadiria Evans added a career-high 11 points. Senior forward Tiffany Wilson grabbed seven total rebounds as she matched Fitzgerald for the game-high in rebounds. Zip Scott corralled five rebounds, which were all defensive, and Jessica Wall netted two three pointers as the Bulldogs shot 50 percent beyond the three-point arc (6- for-12).
As a team, the Bulldogs made 25 trips to the free-throw line and converted on 16 shots. The Bulldogs dominated the paint (42-24) as they also out-rebounded the Lancers 48-31. With 13 offensive rebounds, UNC Asheville connected with 17 second-chance points and limited Longwood to only four second-chance points.
Evans Named Big South Freshman of the Week
Freshman guard Evans was named Big South Freshman of the Week on Jan. 15. She helped aid the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week as they defeated Radford 67-56 on the road and Longwood 82-52 at home.
Evans totaled 20 points last week including a career-high 11 points versus the Lancers. In the two victories, she shot .462 percent from the field (6-for-13). The Gainesville, Fla. native also grabbed six total rebounds including matching a career-high four boards versus Radford. She totaled 38 minutes and played 23 minutes versus the Lancers for a new career high for the freshman.
Scouting the Flames
Liberty enters the mid-week contest with a 9-7 overall record and a 4-0 Big South mark. The Lady Flames are currently on a four-game win streak. They played a tough non-conference schedule where they played six road games and went 1-5 during that stretch - won 63-55 at Old Dominion, lost 74-50 at No. 23 Michigan, lost 96-68 at Drake, lost 58-47 at James Madison and lost 68-51 to No. 14 Duke.
In all four Big South games this year, Liberty has won all games by at least 10 points. In fact, its scoring margin is +18.3, which is the highest in the Big South this year. In league play, Liberty is shooting .487 percent from the field and limiting its opponents to .345 percent. The Flames are also showing dominance on the boards as they have a +7.0 rebounding margin. In conference play, they also average 2.3 more blocks per contest and 8.3 assists per game.
Overall this year, Liberty has two double-digit scorers in Keyen Green (11.0 ppg) and KK Barbour (10.1 ppg). Green has appeared in 14 of the 16 games this year including 12 starts, while Barbour has started all 16 games this season. The duo is also leading the team in rebounds per game as Barbour averages 5.9 and Green averages 5.5. Lela Stellars leads the team in blocks as she has 11, and Ashtyn Baker paces the team with 25 steals.
All-Time History Versus Liberty
Tuesday's contest will be the 65th all-time meeting between the two clubs as Liberty leads the series 53-11. Liberty also leads the all-time series in Asheville 20-9, but the Lady Flames only hold a slim 5-4 advantage inside Kimmel Arena. However, Asheville is currently on a four-game winning streak vs. Liberty.
The last time the two teams played was in Lynchburg, Va., and the Bulldogs defeated the Flames 57-53. The last time the two clubs played in Asheville was last year, and the Bulldogs downed Liberty 64-54 behind Chatori Major netting 19 point, Sonora Dengokl scoring 14 points and Wall adding 11 points in the 10-point win inside Kimmel Arena.
