SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2017 fall campaign for UNC Asheville men's tennis opened with the Bulldogs picking up some big wins at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships and the USC Upstate Invitational.

At the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., reigning Big South Player of the Year Henry Patten had two wins against top-notch competition. In the round of 64 in Division I singles at the event, Patten bested Mercer's Sam Phillip 6-1, 6-4. In the round of 32, Patten downed the fifth seed in the entire event in Kevin Konfederak of Georgia Gwinnett 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

Patten will take on Stetson's Loic Blanco in the round of 16 on Saturday at 2 p.m.

In doubles Division I action in the round of 32, Bulldog newcomer Oli Nolan teamed with Patten to beat Josh Howard-Tripp and Branch Terrell of Arkansas 8-7. The UNC Asheville doubles duo will now take on Remi Chancerel and Anthony Schohn of FAU in the round of 16 at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

In the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C., in the "Black" draw at the event, UNC Asheville's Andrew Sinai advanced to the second round in the main draw to face Bryan Triana of Kennesaw State at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Teammate Olly Cull dropped his match to fall into the consolation bracket where he will face Hunter Owen of Belmont Abbey College at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

In the "Green" singles draw, UNC Asheville's Reese Daly, Edward Colclough, Finlay McFayden and James Massie will all participate in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In the doubles portion of the tournament, Daly and Colclough picked up a 6-3 win over the Belmont Abbey tandem of Lorenzo Lopes de Oliveira and Carlos Nolasco. McFayden and Sinai collected a 7-5 win over the USC Upstate duo of Luka Eble and Samuel Schiano.

In the next round, Daly and Colclough kept up their winning ways with a 6-3 win over Luis Conde and Stenger. The Bulldog duo will continue their efforts in the main draw against Zachary Blythe and Owen in the semifinals of the event at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

In the doubles consolation portion of the event, Cull and Massie bested Francisco Neto and Ankush Arora 6-4 to move on to the semifinals of the bracket to take on Eble and Schiano at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
