Women’s Soccer Competes In First Big South Road Contest

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After playing three home contests in the last four matches, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team will travel to Gardner-Webb on Sept. 27 as Asheville will put its impressive 3-1 road record to the test in Boiling Springs, N.C. at 7 p.m.

Asheville sports an impressive 3-1 road record as it has posted victories over VMI, Jacksonville and South Carolina State in away contests.
In the previous four matches, UNC Asheville has three different goal scorers in Caroline Houser, Emma Houser and Skyler Chillson. Emma Houser and Chillson each netted a goal in the 2-0 road victory at SCSU, while Caroline Houser scored the lone goal at home versus Elon.
In the nation, UNC Asheville has the third fewest fouls as a team as the Bulldogs average 4.80 per contest. The fewest in the nation is held by N.C. State with 4.00 fouls per game, who has received 21 votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Senior midfielder Courtney Naber is second in the Big South Conference in shots (33) and shots per game (3.30). Caroline Houser is tied for 4th in the league with three assists, while her twin sister is tied for 8th in the same category (two assists). Naber and Chillson are tied for second in the Big South in game-winning goals as they each have two this year.
Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Runnin' Bulldogs enter the mid-week matchup with a 2-8 overall record and a 0-1 mark in league play. GWU traveled to Liberty to kick off its Big South Conference play as the Runnin' Bulldogs fell 1-0 as the Flames recorded a goal in the 50th minute to seal the narrow win.
GWU played a tough non-conference schedule this year as it has played at Louisville and Georgia Southern and has hosted Maryland, Charlotte and Florida Atlantic.
Gardner-Webb has scored five goals this year, while Samuelle Grove has tallied a team-leading two goals. Stina Kleppe leads the squad with three points as she has recorded a goal and an assist this year.
In the Big South Conference, GWU is tied for the league lead in saves with 60 and is also tied for 4th with a pair of shutouts this year.
Keely Brown has totaled the most minutes in goal this year as she has 846:54 minutes. She has a 1.91 goals against average as she has corralled 55 of the 60 team saves this year.
As a team, Gardner-Webb has been out-shot 155-68 including 75-25 in the first half. Opponents have also taken more corners (49-24) than the Runnin' Bulldogs.
