Hinson Tied for 16th after First Day of Pirate Collegiate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – After playing 36 holes to open the Pirate Collegiate Classic on Monday, freshman Taylor Hinson leads the Bulldogs as she is tied for 16th individually while the UNC Asheville women's golf team sits tied for 11th on the team leaderboard.

First and Second Round Highlights
Rookie golfer Hinson is pacing UNC Asheville after the first two rounds at the Pirate Collegiate Classic as she is tied for 16th individually at 5-over 149. She opened the first round with a 5-over 77, but she moved up 18 spots after the second round after carding an even-72. In total, the Belmont, N.C. native recorded seven birdies on the first day of action.
Janie Thomas has the second-best score as an individual as she sits tied for 50th at 13-over 157 (76-81) after the first 36 holes of competition. Kellen Alsip is tied for 57th with 14-over 158 (77-81) as she sits one stroke behind her teammate.
As a team, the Bulldogs sit tied for 11th in the 17-team field as they are tied with Charleston Southern at 44-over 620 (312-308). Asheville is one stroke away from cracking into the top 10 as William & Mary is 43-over 619.
Host school East Carolina is atop the team leaderboard as the Pirates are 3-over 579 after the first two rounds. The Pirates carded an 8-under 280, which broke a tournament record for the lowest 18-hole team score in tournament history.
Alexis Hios of Towson and Anika Hitt of Cincinnati are tied for the individual lead as the duo are 2-under 142 after the first day of play. East Carolina has a trio of players within the top 5 as each have carded even-144 or better on Monday.

The Bulldogs will conclude the final round of the Pirate Collegiate Classic on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. on holes 10a-12b. UNC Asheville will be paired with Big South rival Charleston Southern and William & Mary to conclude the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
