Bulldogs return to Oyster Shuck Match Play to defend title

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following a successful inaugural season, UNC Asheville women's golf head coach Breanne Hall has revealed the 2017-18 schedule, which includes four tournaments in the fall and six during the spring.

For its sophomore season, UNC Asheville will compete in eight new tournaments, and it will return to the Oyster Shuck Match Play as the Bulldogs look to defend its first-ever championship.

To open the fall schedule, the Bulldogs will travel to Batavia, Ohio to compete in the NKU Fall Classic on Sept. 11-12. The opening tournament will be held at the Elks Run Golf Course.

Two weeks later, UNC Asheville will compete at the Pirate Collegiate Classic at the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C. East Carolina concluded the 2016-17 season ranked 56th in the country where it won two tournaments and finished in the top 5 in six tournaments.

UNC Asheville opens October with a two-day tournament at Austin Peay at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, and the Bulldogs conclude the fall season by traveling to Rock Hill, S.C. to compete in the Winthrop Intercollegiate on Oct. 21-22.

With nearly four months off, the Bulldogs will return to the links on Feb. 19-20 as they make their first trip to the Sunshine State. Jacksonville University will host the two-day event that will be played at the Amelia National Golf Club in Amelia Island, Fla.

After winning its first championship at the Oyster Shuck Match Play, Asheville was invited to return to defend its title in late February at the Patriots Point Links in Mount Pleasant, S.C. On March 12-13, UNC Asheville will compete in the Bradley Invitational, and a week later, the Bulldogs travel to Charleston, S.C. to participate at the Briar's Creek Invitational, which is hosted by College of Charleston.

The Bulldogs will conclude their regular season with the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament is hosted by Appalachian State and runs April 1-2.

To conclude the season, UNC Asheville will compete in the Big South Conference Championship. The postseason tournament will be the Bulldogs first three-day tournament of the season and will run April 13-15 at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. Last year at the Big South Championships, the Bulldogs finished with a 62-over 926, which was their lowest team score of the year.
