ASHEVILLE, N.C. – To conclude its preseason schedule, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team will host Wright State on Saturday, Aug. 12 at Greenwood Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

About UNC Asheville

The Bulldogs opened their preseason schedule with a home match against Western Carolina. The Catamounts took the opening match 4-2, but Caroline Houser and Skyler Chillson each netted a goal to open the preseason.

Head coach Michelle Demko sent out 17 players in the exhibition including four freshmen: Bryson Lee, Chillson, Grace Kwiatkowski and Rachel Bewick.

In her first collegiate action, Lee played the full 90 minutes in goal while Chillson took a pair of shots with one being a goal. Houser and Courtney Naber each took three shots to lead the team with Houser putting two shots on frame.

Scouting Wright State

The Raiders finished the 2016 season with a 6-11-2 record and a 4-1 mark in the Horizon League. After tying Detroit Mercy to open its conference play in 2016, Wright State won four straight games where it scored at least two goals in each game and out-scored opponents 11-3 in the four-game span. Despite the early success, the Raiders lost their final five games of the season including a 1-0 loss to Northern Kentucky in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament.

In her sophomore campaign, Mattie Cutts led the Raider attack as she netted five goals. Right behind her was Aaliyah Patten who notched four goals and four assists. Patten led the team in points (12), shots (47) and shots on goal (29) last year.

Wright State lost its starting goalkeeper, Katie Ruff, but sophomore Maddie Jewell looks to fill her ex-teammate's shoes after appearing in three games (one start) last season.

Wright State began its preseason schedule this week where the Raiders traveled to Tennessee and lost 3-0.

Like Asheville, the match on Saturday against the Bulldogs will be their final preseason match of the season.

Looking Ahead

The Bulldogs will begin their regular season at VMI on Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. Two days later, UNC Asheville will return home for its home opener against Wofford at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Field.
