CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Five UNC Asheville women's golfers were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholars.
The WGCA made the official announcement on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. The five Bulldog golfers were five of 952 women's collegiate golfers to receive the prestigious honor.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
The five Bulldog freshmen that received the honor for their efforts in the classroom in the 2016-17 athletic year were Kellen Alsip, Rebecca Black, Linna Brooks, Adelyn Deery and Erica Olberding.
As a team, UNC Asheville women's golf posted a 3.604 grade-point average in the 2016-17 athletic year.
"There were a lot of firsts for our team in our inaugural season, but this honor is extremely special in that this shows that our group truly embraced being student-athletes from the time that they stepped on to the UNC Asheville campus," UNC Asheville women's golf head coach Breanne Hall said.
