Rebecca Black Named to Big South All-Freshman Team

Ninety Six, S.C. - UNC Asheville's women's golf freshman Rebecca Black picked up all-conference honors following Wednesday's final round of Big South Championship play at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor.

"It was great to see Rebecca honored with this award," UNC Asheville women's golf head coach Breanne Hall said. "She works extremely hard on her golf game and it is wonderful to see that work pay off. She is great leader on and off the golf course. I look forward to watching her progress over the next three years."

In UNC Asheville's inaugural season Black led the team with a 79.04 stroke average in 24 rounds played. Her career best round was a 72 during the final round at the Big South Conference Championship where she finished in a tie for 20th. She also had one top-10 finish on the season coming in a tie for eighth at the Low Country Intercollegiate.

In match play Black went 3-0 in the Oyster Shuck Match Play at Patriots Points Links on April 3-4. Her performance led UNC Asheville to its first team championship in school history over William and Mary, 3-2. Individually, she defeated Morgan Cox (Radford), 4&3, Ylva Forsland (Marshall), 2&1, and Katie Edelblut (William and Mary), 3&2. She was also selected to the Oyster Shuck Match Play All-Tournament Team.

Black of Elizabethtown, Ky. also earned weekly accolades from the Big South Conference twice this season on Oct. 14, 2016 and April 6, 2017.

Joining Black on the All-Freshman team was Desiree Andersson (Campbell), Stacey White (Campbell), Tonrak Tasaso (High Point) and Samantha Vodry (High Point).
