UNC Asheville Falls 7-0 at High Point Friday Night

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team suffered a 7-0 road loss at the hands of High Point in a Big South Conference game Friday evening. With the win, the Panthers claim the series over the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs (13-21, 4-7 Big South) fell behind 3-0 in the bottom of the third and never fully recovered as the two High Point pitchers held UNC Asheville to just three hits over the course of the nine inning affair.
High Point (19-15, 6-7 Big South) went on to score two runs in the fourth as well as single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. The Panthers had nine hits in the game to Asheville's three.
Two of the Bulldogs' hits came from shortstop Carmine Pagano, who went 2-for-4 at the plate. Pagano added a pair of putouts and two assists in the field.
Starter Greg Gasparro (2-3) pitched the first 3.2 innings before giving way to Nick Boyles and Jesse Juday. Both Gasparro and Boyles struck out three batters while Juday shut down the Panthers for the final 1.2 innings.
High Point's Drew Daczkowski (3-3) secured the win on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings of scoreless ball that saw the freshman strike out nine batters. Joe Johnson pitched the final 1.2 innings.

TOMORROW'S STARTING PITCHERS: UNC Asheville will close out the series with senior Spencer Orr making his ninth start on the year. The senior southpaw is 1-3 on the year, but boasts a 2.91 ERA in 46.1 innings of work. Orr has struck out a team-best 42 batters, the most he has retired in a single season in his career.

The Bulldogs and Panthers will close out the three-game series on Saturday, April 15, with a single game scheduled for 2 p.m.
