BUIES CREEK, N.C.—The UNC Asheville men's tennis team dropped their first Big South conference match of the season in a 5-2 loss to the Campbell Camels on Saturday afternoon.

The Camels were able to jump to an early lead by seizing the doubles point. No. 1 seeded Henry Patten and Josh Swindler continued to find success, defeating Dustin Werner and Lorenz Schwab, 6-3. The No. 2 pairing of James Massie and Edward Colclough fell to Nicolas Rakitin and Lukas Schaefer, 6-3. Campbell seized the doubles point when the Bulldogs No. 3 Olly Cull and Reid Dillon lost 6-0 to Gerard Sola and Jonathan O'Neal.

No. 1 Patten dropped his first set of the season, yet still improved to 11-0 at singles, with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-0, triumph over Schaefer. No. 2 Swindler rallied from a set down to take a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, victory over Schaefer. The Camels would then take wins on courts No. 3-6. No. 3 Cull fell to Werner, 7-5, 6-4. No. 4 Dillon was defeated by Sola, 6-2, 6-1. No. 5 Andrew Sinai lost a hard fought three-setter to Schwab, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. The afternoon was concluded with No. 6 Massie falling 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (8).

PATTEN DROPS FIRST SET: After going 10-0 in No. 1 singles play for the Bulldogs without dropping a set along the way, Henry Patten finally lost a set in his singles match Saturday. Despite the setback, Patten still found a way to improve to 11-0 in singles on the season.
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will return home to host West Liberty University at the Asheville Racquet Club on Friday, March 10. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
