BUIES CREEK, N.C.—The UNC Asheville men's tennis team got back on the winning track in a 4-3 victory over West Liberty Friday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.

The Hilltoppers were able to jump to an early lead by seizing the doubles competition. No. 1 seeded Henry Patten and Josh Swindler continued to find success, defeating Andrew Ponder and Matt Tully, 6-2. West Liberty rallied on courts No. 2 and 3 to claim the doubles point. The No. 2 pairing of James Massie and Edward Colclough fell to Santiago Gutierrez and Baptiste Perrin, 6-3. Court No. 3 saw Olly Cull and Reid Dillon lose a tough 7-5 match to Camilo Moncayo and Pablo Cimorra.

No. 1 Patten continued to shine, improving to 12-0 at singles, with a straight set, 6-4, 6-2, triumph over Perrin. No. 2 Swindler was nearly perfect in his 6-0, 6-1, victory over Ponder. No. 3 Cull lost to Tully, 6-4, 7-6 (8). No. 4 Dillon lost a hard fought three-setter to Gutierrez, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. No. 5 Sinai topped Cimorra in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The afternoon was concluded with No. 6 Massie winning 6-2, 6-1 over Flanagan.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore Henry Patten has started the season with some very impressive performances, earning himself this week's Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Feb. 27-March 6. Patten topped the No. 102 ranked singles player at the time, Scott Webster of Appalachian State, earlier this season. Patten also defeated the No. 66 ranked singles player at the time, Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech. The native of the U.K. improves to 12-0 in singles play on the year, winning every match but one in straight sets.

QUITE THE PAIR: The No. 1 duo of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler have been phenomenal this season. With today's victory, the top pairing improved to 11-1Â on the season and are currently riding a seven-match winning streak.Â
