DURHAM, N.C.—The UNC Asheville men's tennis team earned their first road victory of the season with a 6-1 triumph over North Carolina Central Sunday afternoon at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts.

The Bulldogs took the early lead, winning the doubles competition. The No. 1 duo of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler downed Gabriel Cucalon and Maksym Konovalov, 6-3. North Carolina Central took court No. 2 when Davide Callegari and Theo Kontopoulos defeated Andrew Sinai and Edward Colclough, 6-3. Asheville seized the doubles point when Reid Dillon and Olly Cull topped Brooks Campbell and Sebastian Bromley, 6-3.

No. 1 Henry Patten continued to shine when he won yet another match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, over Cucalon. No. 2 Swindler rallied from a set down to win 1-6, 7-5, 6-1, over Kontopoulos. Asheville's No. 3 Dillon fell to Callegari after forcing a third set, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. The Bulldogs would go on to take courts No. 4-6. The No. 4 seeded Cull topped Konovalov, 6-2, 6-1. Court No. 5 saw Sinai defeat Campbell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. No. 6 Colclough finished the afternoon with his victory over Pablo Juez Torres, 6-2, 6-2.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore Henry Patten has started the season with some very impressive performances, earning himself last week's Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Feb. 27-March 6. Patten topped the No. 102 ranked singles player at the time, Scott Webster of Appalachian State, earlier this season. Patten also defeated the No. 66 ranked singles player at the time, Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech. The native of the U.K. improves to 16-0 in singles play on the year, winning every match but one in straight sets.

QUITE THE PAIR: The No. 1 duo of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler have been phenomenal this season. After today's victory, the top pairing improved to 15-1 on the season and are currently riding a 11-match winning streak.Â
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will return to Big South action when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to face Winthrop, on Tuesday, March 21. The start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
