ROCK HILL, S.C.—The UNC Asheville men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Winthrop Eagles at the Rock Hill Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 1 duo of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler earned yet another doubles victory, topping Winthrop's Diego Quiroz and Gabriel Dias, 7-6 (3). The Eagles went on to claim the doubles point, winning on court No. 2 and 3.

The No. 2 pairing of James Massie and Edward Colclough lost a hard fought match to Ruy Teixeira and Leandros Pappayiannis, 7-6 (6). Court No. 3 saw Reid Dillon and Olly Cull fall 6-1 to Joshua Ryan and Aditya Gokhale.

The No. 1 seeded Patten downed Quiroz in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Asheville also took court No. 2 when Swindler bested Teixeira, 6-2, 6-3. Winthrop went on to claim courts No. 3-6 to clinch the match.

On court No. 3 Pappayiannis defeated Dillon, 6-3, 6-3. Court No. 4 saw Cull drop to Dias, 6-3, 6-1. The No. 5 seeded Andrew Sinai forced a super tiebreak but came up short, losing 7-6, 3-6, 10-8, to Gokhale. The afternoon concluded with No. 6 slotted Colclough losing 6-2, 6-3 to Ryan.
 
BULLDOG BITES
SINAI SHOWING HIS STUFF: Despite his loss today, sophomore Andrew Sinai has turned it on over the past few weeks. Sinai is 4-2 in his last six matches, winning three of them in straight sets.

STREAK BROKEN: Heading into today's match freshman Edward Colclough was riding an undefeated four-match win streak to start the season. Today he dropped his first decision of the year and is now 4-1.

IMPRESSIVE PATTEN: Sophomore Henry Patten has started the season with some very impressive performances, earning himself the Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Feb. 27-March 6. Patten topped the No. 102 ranked singles player at the time, Scott Webster of Appalachian State, earlier this season. Patten also defeated the No. 66 ranked singles player at the time, Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech. The native of the U.K. is now 17-0 in singles play on the year, winning every match but one in straight sets.
 
STREAKING TO SUCCESS: The No. 1 duo of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler have been phenomenal this season. After today's victory, the top pairing improved to 16-1 on the year and are currently riding a 12-match winning streak.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will travel to Clinton, S.C., for their final road match of the season, next Monday, March 27, to face Presbyterian. The start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
