UNC Asheville Shatters Attendance Record as Bulldogs Rout Warren Wilson 100-53

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In front of 2,878 fans on Education Day, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team routed Warren Wilson 100-53 as four Bulldogs posted double-figures in points as well as out-rebounded the Owls 61-21 inside Kimmel Arena on Monday morning.

Game Highlights

Warren Wilson jumped out to a fast start as it made two of its first four shots to go up 5-0. However, the Bulldogs raced into their first lead of the contest thanks to a 9-1 run halfway through the first quarter. From there, UNC Asheville never looked back as it tallied 14 points to conclude the first quarter. Between Bronaza Fitzgerald, Khaila Webb and Ali Trani, the trio combined for 15 of the team's points in the first 10 minutes of action.

The Bulldog defense was put on display in the second quarter as it limited the Owls to just nine points on only three shots made. With the stout defense, Asheville capitalized on the offensive side of the ball as it recorded 22 points in the second quarter as eight different Bulldogs recorded at least one point in the final 10 minutes before the half.

At the halftime break, the Bulldogs were up 45-24 with Webb leading the pack with 10 points and two assists as well as shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Fitzgerald tallied nine points as she grabbed five boards, blocked one shot and went 4-for-5 from the field. As a team, the Bulldogs were out-muscling the Owls on the boards 33-7 as Juliet Esadah paced the team with six rebounds at the break.

After halftime, Webb continued her hot hand as she shot a perfect 3-for-3 from the court as she totaled eight points and an assist in the third quarter. Nadiria Evans and Trani combined for nine of the team's 23 points in the third quarter while Brooke Jordan-Brown corralled four rebounds.

With a 68-35 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs recorded a season-high in points scored in a quarter as Asheville dropped 32 points in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Juniors Zip Scott and Jessica Wall each posted six points, and the duo combined to go 4-for-4 from the field. Alexis Toney and Fitzgerald each tallied four points as Fitzgerald grabbed five of her 12 total rebounds in the contest during that period.

Overall, Fitzgerald recorded her seventh career double-double as she totaled 13 points and 12 rebounds. It was also the second game in a row the senior from Danville, Va. had posted a double-double.

Webb nearly had a career high in points scored (22 points), but she fell four shy after shooting 6-for-9 from the field. The Big South Preseason Selection recorded three assists as well as going 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Two other Bulldogs – Wall and Scott – also scored in double figures as Scott dropped 12 points and Wall totaled 11. Scott, who broke her previous single-game high in points scored at Wofford on Thursday, set another career best with her 12-point performance. Trani, Evans and Esadah each notched nine points in Monday's contest.

Esadah and Jordan-Brown each grabbed eight rebounds while Evans and Toney each totaled six boards.

Wall paced the squad with four assists, which brings her career total to 150 assists. Amaryah Corpening and Webb each added earned three assists during the morning contest.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 34-for-65 (52.3 percent) from the field and went 27-for-38 (71.1 percent) from the charity stripe. They out-rebounded the Owls 61-21 including 21-5 on the offensive glass. On the 34 made shots, the Bulldogs recorded an assist on half of the made shots. They posted 48 points in the paint including netting 24 points on second chance opportunities.

The Bulldogs conclude their two-game home stand as they welcome Mercer – who is receiving votes in the Mid-Major Top 25 – to Kimmel Arena on Dec. 10 for a 1 p.m. tip.
