– To conclude the final day at the Fall Frenzy Invitational on Sunday, sophomore Catherine Allen broke the fourth UNC Asheville swimming record at the three-day meet as she shattered the school record in the 200 butterfly. As a team, the Bulldogs finished third out of the nine women's programs to conclude meet at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

Overall Team Results

As a team, UNC Asheville finished third out of nine women's swimming teams with 1,475 team points.

Host school Queens University of Charlotte placed first with 2,025.5 points, and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association rival Gardner-Webb finished second with 1,670 (only 195 points ahead of Asheville).  

Day Three Preliminary Highlights

To kick off the final day of the Fall Frenzy Invitational, six Bulldogs competed in the 200 backstroke preliminaries. Stephanie Smith led Asheville as she finished third with a season-best 2:04.57. Emily Werth (2:06.32) and Alejandra Sanchez Garcia (2:07.02) followed their teammate as they placed seventh and eighth, respectively. The trio also finished with a berth into the A Final.  Emma Nelson and Elizabeth Murray both finished with a seed in the finals as they posted season-best times as well.

Adee Weller paced UNC Asheville in the 100 freestyle as she was the lone Asheville representative in the A Final. She recorded a season-best 53.76, which placed her ninth overall. Jessica Woolfe (12th – 54.47) and Elizabeth Conte (15th – 55.43) also posted season-best times as they both placed B Final status on the final day. Junior Katie Brown broke a personal record as she recorded a 56.36, which was a life-time best for the Woodstock, Ga. native.

Morgan Rulevich continued her success in Charlotte as she was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke. With a season-best 2:20.45, she was Asheville's lone representation in the A Final. Carly Emerson, Shannon Kennedy and Allie Snyder finish in order (13th-15th) as the trio earned season-best times and a berth into the B Finals. Skye Lewis capped off the preliminaries for the 200 breaststroke with a life-time best 2:32.64.

In the final preliminary race (200 butterfly), four Bulldogs placed in the top 20. Allen earned a sixth seed and a spot in the A Finals with a 2:04.78, and Madison Rogan and Savanah Crutchfield posted B Finals times as Rogan recorded a 2:06.73 and Crutchfield clocked a 2:11.22. Aleta Jewell rounded out the top 20 finishes for UNC Asheville (18th) with a 2:26.85.

Day Three Finals Highlights

In the 200 backstroke finals, the Bulldogs went in order (3rd-5th) with Smith leading the way with a 2:04.03 followed by a life-time best 2:05.08 by Sanchez Garcia and a season-best 2:05.75 from Werth. Nelson wrapped up the top finishes for Asheville as she placed 17th with a season-best 2:10.68.

Weller guided UNC Asheville in the 100 free as she placed seventh with a 54.03, while Woolfe finished 10th with a season-best 54.41. Conte also finished in the top 15 (12th) with a 54.76.

Rulevich shaved off 0.44 seconds from her preliminary time as she placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke final as she clocked a 2:20.01. Emerson posted a life-time best 2:26.43, which was good enough for a 10th place finish. Kennedy, who previously broke a season-best in the prelims, broke that time as she posted a 2:31.13. The Winter Springs, Fla. native finished 13th overall as she improved one position from the preliminary session.

In the final individual event of the Fall Frenzy Invitational, a fourth UNC Asheville school record fell as Allen broke the 200 butterfly mark with a 2:02.89. She finished in the top 5 as the Raleigh, N.C. native celebrated her second school record at the three-day event. Four Bulldogs posted season-best times as Madison Rogan recorded a 2:05.94, which placed her 10th. Savanah Crutchfield recorded a 2:10.21 as she finished 13th to round out the three top 15 finishes for UNC Asheville.

Day Three Relay and 1,650 Freestyle Highlights

In the longest distance race of the three-day meet (1,650 freestyle), four Asheville swimmers posted top 15 times including three in the top 10. Skylar Rogan placed fourth with a 17:07.30, and Weller finished sixth with a 17:32.06. Sydney VandenBerg capped off the top 10 (8th) finishes with a 17:51.99, which was also a life-time best for the junior from Concord, N.C. Aleta Jewell was the fourth Bulldog to finish in the top 15 as the freshman finished 11th with a 18:38.79, which was also a life-time best.

To round-out the three-day meet, UNC Asheville had two strong team finishes in the 400 freestyle relay. The Bulldogs' A Team (Rulevich, Skylar Rogan, Weller and Sanchez Garcia) placed fourth with a 3:32.30, and the Bulldogs' B Team (Allen, Woolfe, Conte and Werth) finished seventh with a 3:39.57

Up Next

After four dual meets and an invite in Charlotte, the UNC Asheville swimming team will take a two-month break from the pool. The Bulldogs return to the water on Jan.13 as Asheville travels to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty and Marshall in the Liberty Natatorium.
