Meet Highlights
The Bulldogs found themselves ahead going into the final event as they were ahead 113-112 with only the 200 yard freestyle relay remaining. However, the Seahawks claimed first and third place to take home the team victory.
Despite the 15-point defeat, it was the closest meet this year in team points and the smallest margin of defeat ever versus UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks defeated the Bulldogs 204-89 (115-point difference) last season, so UNC Asheville made a 100-point improvement from 2016.
Highlighting the meet for the Bulldogs was their seven first place finishes in the 14 total events. Junior Morgan Rulevich paced the team as she won four races – 400 medley relay, 100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 200 breaststroke.
Joining the Lake Wylie, S.C. native in the 400 medley relay was Stephanie Smith, Catherine Allen and Alejandra Sanchez Garcia as they clocked in at 3:56.46, which was nearly six and a half seconds faster than second place.
In the longest event of the meet, UNC Asheville took first and second in the 1000 freestyle as Skylar Rogan (10:33.19) claimed the top spot followed by Adee Weller (10:45.70).
Emily Werth earned a first place finish in the 100 backstroke as she downed the competition by over a second to give the Bulldogs nine team points.
Another highlight for the Bulldogs was in the 200 backstroke as three Bulldogs swept the top three spots. Sanchez Garcia took first while Smith and Werth placed second and third respectively in a tight race.
