Meet Highlights
One of the highlights for the Bulldogs was Rulevich breaking the school record in the 100 freestyle. The Lake Wylie, S.C. native previously held the record at 51.62, but she shaved off 0.02 seconds to post a new school record. On top of setting a school record, Rulevich won three individual events - 100 breaststroke (1:05.16), 50 freestyle (24.04) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.56).
Skylar Rogan also posted an impressive meet as she won the 1000 freestyle with a 10:31.00 time, which was over 20 seconds faster than the second place finisher. She also claimed the top spot in the 500 freestyle with a 5:10.35 time. Her twin sister Madison Rogan won back-to-back events in the 100 butterfly (59.06) and the 200 IM (2:11.51) to give the team 18 points.
Joining the Rulevich and the Rogan sisters with strong performances was Alejandra Sanchez Garcia where she claimed the top spot in the 200 freestyle (1:56.70) and 200 backstroke (2:08.75).
To cap off the individual winners for the Bulldogs, Catherine Allen won the 200 butterfly with a 2:08.18 time, and Emily Werth won the 100 backstroke with a 59.39 time.
Despite Georgia Southern winning the first event of the dual meet, UNC Asheville battled as it won 11 of the next 13 events – 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly and the 200 IM.
The 48-point victory for UNC Asheville was the second-largest margin of victory against a CCSA rival. The Bulldog victory also marked the first team victory against Georgia Southern as UNC Asheville had lost its five previous dual meets versus the Eagles.
Quotable
"First, I want to say congrats to Morgan as she broke the school record in the 100 freestyle in the leadoff of the 400 freestyle relay. She finished at 51.60, and she previously held the school record at 51.62. She also won the 100 breast, 200 breast and the 50 freestyle. All of which were season-best times for her."
"We had so many season-best times today. The team really stepped up and raced its heart out for the second-most points against a CCSA team in the program's history. We are really proud of how our ladies performed. We had two straight meets with really good performances from everyone."
"This was a really exciting meet. It was also the first time we have beaten Georgia Southern, so that is really exciting and impressive. It was really fun to see everyone compete so hard
and be supportive of one another."
"Last week there were a lot of back-and-forth moments between the two schools, and this week we were a lot more consistent. After the first couple of events, we didn't let up, which was really nice to see."
