Hinson Paces Bulldogs After First Day at Winthrop Intercollegiate

WINTHROP, S.C. – Freshman Taylor Hinson rebounded after her last outing as the Belmont, N.C. native paced the UNC Asheville women's golf team after the first round at the Winthrop Intercollegiate as she sits in 10th place individually.

First Day Highlights
Hinson shot low in her opening round as she carded a 3-over 75. The freshman is tied for third-best individually in par-5 scoring as she was 1-under on all par-5s at the Rock Hill Country Club.
Nipping at her heels is sophomore Janie Thomas as she is two strokes behind her teammate. Thomas carded a 4-over 76 as she is tied for 11th individually. Becca Black and Adelyn Deery joined the Bulldog duo in the top 25 individually as they each inked a 7-over 79 in the opening round of the Winthrop Intercollegiate.
As a team, UNC Asheville is in 5th place at 21-over 309.The Bulldogs are two strokes behind mountain rival Appalachian State and five strokes behind host school Winthrop.
Leading the team leaderboard is High Point at 2-under 286, and two Panthers are first and second on the individual leaderboard as Cayla Smith is in first at 4-under 68 while Anna Holmberg is second at 3-under 69.
Final Round Information
The Bulldogs will conclude the final round of the Winthrop Intercollegiate on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on holes 5-8. UNC Asheville will be paired with Appalachian State and Austin Peay to play the final 18 holes.
