UNC Asheville Drops First Home Match of 2017 Season

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team lost its first home match of the year, 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-18), to High Point on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Justice Center.
UNC Asheville is now 5-1 on the season at the Justice Center with wins over Montreat, Gardner-Webb, Campbell, Winthrop and Charleston Southern.
The match was the first of two scheduled on the weekend for the Bulldogs, who will next host Radford at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Justice Center.
UNC Asheville was led in the match by Cara Guthrie's eight kills and eight digs. Ava Venema finished just behind her with seven kills.
Madisen Zyburt ended the match with seven digs for the Bulldogs.
The sophomore setting tandem of Kailey Hackett (14) and Carter Kennedy (11) once again led the way for the Bulldogs (9-12, 5-5 Big South Conference).
Katie Tylman closed out the match with 10 kills to lead the Panthers (17-6, 10-0 Big South Conference). High Point's Abby Bottomley ended her night with 15 digs.

Saturday is "Dads and Daughters" day on UNC Asheville's campus. As part of "Dads and Daughters Day," admission is two for the price of one on the day if you attend both the women's soccer and volleyball matches. The women's soccer team at UNC Asheville hosts Liberty for "Senior Day" at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Field. The UNC Asheville swimming team also plays host to UNCW at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Justice Center Pool.

Including her freshman season at Carson-Newman, Madisen Zyburt with her seven digs against High Point now has over 700 digs in her career with 707.
Over 800
Cara Guthrie's eight kills in the match with High Point allowed her to surpass 800 kills in her career. She enters the Radford match with 807. Guthrie also only needs a few more digs to surpass 700 in the category as she has 696 in her career.
Over 900
Kailey Hackett with her 14 assists in the High Point match now has over 900 assists in her career with 902. Carter Kennedy is nearing 900 as well as she presently has 833 in her career.
