CLINTON, S.C. – UNC Asheville volleyball hit .316 as a team in its 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-13, 26-24) road win over Presbyterian College on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Templeton Center.

The Bulldogs (9-11, 5-4 Big South Conference) hit over .300 as a team in the first and third sets. In collecting the 25-22 win in the first set, the Bulldogs hit .389.

After the Blue Hose (5-17, 2-7 Big South Conference) put themselves back in the match at the time in the second set with a 25-22 win of their own, UNC Asheville completely turned the tables in the third set by hitting .406 en route to an easy 25-13 win in the third game.

The Bulldogs and Blue Hose battled back and forth in the fourth set. The Bulldogs would be down 24-23, but they would then score the next three points to secure the set and the overall match victory. After an Ansley Rooks kill tied things up at 24-all, back-to-back Ava Venema kills off assists from Carter Kennedy garnered UNC Asheville the victory.

Junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie continued her extremely impressive 2017 season by collecting another double-double with 22 kills and 15 digs.

Rooks collected a double-double of her own with 18 digs to go along with 10 kills.

Four Bulldogs registered double-digit digs with KK Haley finishing with 14 digs and seven kills and Madisen Zyburt ending her night with 12 digs.

Kailey Hackett finished the match with 27 assists to lead the Bulldogs, while Kennedy had 23 assists in the match. Hackett also had four blocks to tie Venema for the team-high in the category in the match.

Allie Wright led the Blue Hose in their loss with 17 kills.

BULLDOG BITES

Sole Possession of Third Place
 
UNC Asheville's road win at Presbyterian College allowed the Bulldogs to take over sole possession of third place in the Big South Conference. To see the full standings, please click HERE.

Killing It
Cara Guthrie's 22 kills in the win at Presbyterian College are the most in a single match for the Bulldogs on the 2017 season. Guthrie now has four 20 or more kill matches on the 2017 season. Her 22 kills in the win at Presbyterian College moved her to 799 overall in her Bulldog career.

Acing the Competition
Already one of the top teams in the entire country in the category, UNC Asheville ended the Presbyterian College match with a season second-best 11 service aces. The Bulldogs now have five 10 or more service ace matches as a team in the 2017 season. Both in the top-10 in the category in the Big South Conference, KK Haley and Sheridan Salisbury both had three service aces in the win over the Blue Hose.

The Bulldogs will next play host to High Point at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Justice Center. The match is the first of two on the weekend for the Bulldogs, who will host Radford at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
