UNC Asheville Unable to Upend Panthers

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville battled all the way until the final whistle, but despite a late goal from Joe LaCasto the Bulldogs dropped their match to Georgia State, 3-1, on Tuesday evening at Greenwood Field.
Down 3-0, LaCasto took advantage of a beautiful ball from Jackson Allen in the 80th-minute to be able to be one-on-one with Georgia State goalkeeper Yannic Horn. LaCasto relished the tremendous opportunity by lacing the ball into the lower right corner.
The Bulldogs (1-13-0) were actually really unlucky to not be down by just one at that juncture as in the 68th-minute Dante Bova snapped a rifling header towards the Panther goal, but Horn made a tremendous stop to keep the score at 2-0 in their favor at the time.
Three different Panthers (10-4-0) scored in the match with Alex Summerfield netting his first goal of the year in the 34th-minute to give Georgia State a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.
In the 58th-minute, Hannes Burmeister scored his sixth of the season for the Panthers before Kwaku Adu-Boahene scored the final goal of the day for Georgia State in the 77th-minute.
Overall, Georgia State outshot the Bulldogs, 17-8, but half of UNC Asheville's eight shots in the match were on frame.
Georgia State held a 7-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities in the match.

For his overall efforts and his goal in the match against Georgia State, Joe LaCasto was tabbed as #ThePursuit Man of the Match by head coach Mathes Mennell and the UNC Asheville men's soccer coaching staff.

It's a must-win game for us. We must win. If we have hopes of making a run in the Big South Tournament it comes down to going to Longwood against a very good team and getting a result. That's what it's all about. Hopefully we learned some lessons. We played a lot of guys tonight, and overall I'm pleased with the effort, but it's just a little bit of the same type of thing where we find ways to hurt ourselves and in college soccer if you hurt yourself it makes the job of the other team a lot easier. Full credit to Georgia State, they did a good job.
