BULLDOG BITES
SERIES WITH LONGWOOD: UNC Asheville owns an all-time series record of 7-4 against Longwood. The first meeting came back during the 2004-05 season when Asheville won 66-50 at home. Longwood went on to win the next four games, but the Bulldogs have since won six straight in the series. As Big South opponents, Asheville controls the series with a 6-1 mark over the Lancers.
MOCK VS. THE LANCERS: Head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick is 6-1 against Longwood since taking over the reins of the Bulldogs' program prior to the 2012-13 season. Her lone loss to the Lancers came during the first season of the two being Big South Conference rivals. Since then, Asheville has gone 6-0 against the Lancers, including 3-0 inside Willett Hall in Farmville, Va.
CONFERENCE OPENER: Preseason favorite UNC Asheville (6-6, 0-1 Big South Conference) opened its Big South Conference schedule at home against Campbell (9-3, 1-0 Big South Conference) on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Camels claimed the meeting 61-55.
HITTING THE OFFENSIVE GLASS: In picking up a pair of double-doubles in two of the last three games, KJ Weaver has corralled in 17 offensive rebounds. She finished the game against Harvard with 13 boards, eight offensive, and 11 points and opened Big South Conference play with a season-high 18 rebounds, seven coming off the offensive glass, and 11 points. As a team, Asheville has collected 39 offensive rebounds in the last three games.
AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN: UNC Asheville is currently 5-0 in games in which they score 70 or more points after the win over USC Upstate.
LEADING THE WAY: Entering this weekend's game at Longwood, UNC Asheville is presently tied with High Point for tops in the Big South Conference in scoring. The two enter Saturday averaging 66.3 points per contest. The Bulldogs led the Big South Conference in scoring last year at 68.2 points per game.
TOPS IN THE FIELD: UNC Asheville currently leads the Big South in field goal percentage with the Bulldogs shooting 41.7 percent per game as a team.
IT'S AN HONOR: Prior to the win over Wofford, Tianna Knuckles was honored for joining the prestigious 1,000-point club at UNC Asheville. One of only 105 in Big South Women's Basketball history to surpass 1,000 points, Knuckles passed the 1,000-point mark in the Bulldog win over Western Carolina on Friday, Nov. 18, at Kimmel Arena. The senior guard out of Wendell, N.C. now has 1,109 career points.
GET ON BOARD: UNC Asheville senior center KJ Weaver became the 108th player in Big South Conference women's basketball history to eclipse the 500 rebound plateau in the Bulldogs' win over Western Carolina on Nov. 18. Weaver presently has 577 rebounds in her career.
UP NEXT: UNC Asheville continues the current two-game Big South Conference road swing with a trek to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on Winthrop on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
