GREENVILLE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville men's tennis team continued their early season success with another 7-0 sweep this time over Mount Olive at the East Carolina Indoor Tennis Facility Saturday afternoon. This match was the season opener for Mount Olive.

The Bulldogs seized the early doubles point beginning with the No. 1 pairing of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler downing Jose Cortijos and Martim Sousa, 6-2. No. 2 Andrew Sinai and James Massie defeated Mount Olive's Ogulcan Deinz and Martin Moser, 6-2. Asheville concluded doubles play with Olly Cull and Reid Dillon topping Sherzod Akramov and Juan Arbelaez, 6-2.
 
Singles play began with Patten defeating Deniz in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. No. 2 Swindler followed with a 6-3, 6-0 performance over Cortijos. The No. 3 court saw Sinai beat Sousa in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. No. 4 seeded Massie then toped Clarke 6-1, 6-4. The afternoon concluded with Colclough rallying to top Jack Middleton, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7).

BULLDOG BITES
CLEAN SWEEPS:  The Bulldogs have now pulled off three consecutive 7-0 sweeps to begin the season. In addition to today's triumph, they swept Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill last weekend.
 
PRESEASON PICKS: Asheville was picked sixth overall in the 2017 Big South Conference Men's Tennis Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs finished the 2016 regular season with an overall 11-8 record and eventually fell to the No. 2 seed Liberty Flames in the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament.

YOUNG DOGS: Coming into the 2017 season, Asheville's roster is filled with underclassmen. The Bulldogs have three freshmen in Edward Colclough, Massie and Yousef. The roster also features three sophomores in Cull, Patten, and Sinai. The team will look to the experience of the two seniors, Dillon and Swindler, to provide leadership this season.

UP NEXT: Bulldogs will next take on the homestanding ECU Pirates tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m.
