ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's volleyball team defeated mountain rival Western Carolina University 3-0 in the Justice Center Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs took set one 25-19 behind six kills from sophomore Cara Guthrie. The Catamounts rallied in set two, keeping the score within three points for the majority of the match before the Bulldogs closed with a 25-21 victory.
Asheville wrapped up the match with a 25-19 victory in set three to sweep the Catamounts in three.
NOTABLES
-The Bulldog offense was led by Cara Guthrie with 19 kills on 33 attempts (.485). Senior Madison Vaughn was the next most efficient hitter for Asheville at .467.
-Asheville setters Kailey Hackett (21) and Carter Kennedy (17) dished out a combined 38 assists in the three-set victory.
-The Bulldogs and the Catamounts battled at the net, with each team collecting six blocks.
-Asheville's victory over Western Carolina gives them a winning non-conference record of 6-5 to take into the first conference match on Friday.
