ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the Sugar Bears of the University of Central Arkansas on Saturday morning to close out tournament play at the UCF Challenge.
The Sugar Bears came out strong to take the first set 25-11 behind a set-high five kills from Haley Tippett. The Sugar Bears' offense recorded nine kills and a .217 hitting efficiency to the Bulldogs' four kills and -.250 efficiency.
Central Arkansas kept the pressure on in set two, taking a close victory over Asheville (25-23) to go up two sets to none.
The Bulldogs responded with 25-21 victory of their own in set three to push the match to four sets. Despite the swing in momentum, the Sugar Bears rallied in set four for a 25-16 victory to take the match.
NOTABLES
-Sheridan Salisbury led the Bulldog defense with 16 of Asheville's 52 digs.
-The Sugar Bears out-blocked the Bulldogs 14-6.
-Ansley Rooks and Cara Guthrie led the way for the Bulldog offense with nine kills each.
