ATHENS, Ga. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team fell 3-1 to the Bulldogs of Georgia in their season opener at the Benson Hospitality Tournament. After losing the first set 25-19, Asheville rallied back to win the second set 25-23 before falling in the final two sets 25-20, 25-23.
NOTABLES
-The Bulldogs hit .145 as a team, and both Madison Vaughn and Cara Guthrie finished the match with 11 kills to lead the Bulldog offense. Vaughn was Asheville's most efficient offensive weapon with a .450 attacking percentage.
-Asheville's Kailey Hackett (19) and Carter Kennedy (12) combined for 39 total assists.
-Both teams struggled from the service line, with 11 service errors each. Georgia took the advantage in aces with eight to Asheville's five.
-Georgia out-dug Asheville 72-67. Libero Madisen Zyburt led Asheville's defense with 29 digs.
-Senior, Madison Vaughn (5 BA, 1 BS) and freshman Tearra Tatum (4 BA) led Asheville's blocking effort, combining for nine of the team's 12 total blocks.
