ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Visiting Presbyterian scored 10 total runs over the fifth and sixth innings Saturday afternoon to take control of what had been a close game as they handed UNC Asheville a 13-8 defeat in Big South Conference action.

THE TURNING POINT
With Asheville leading 4-3 entering the fifth, Presbyterian sent nine batters to the plate in both the fifth and sixth frames, scoring six runs on five hits in the fifth inning to take lead before a four-run, four-hit sixth extended the advantage.
NOTABLES
-Asheville finished with 12 hits in the game, led by Scott Kobos' 4-for-5 afternoon, adding two RBIs. Danny Wilson and Joe Tietjen each had two hits, with Tietjen connecting for a double and his fifth home run of the season. Derek Smith (home run) and Lucas Owens (double) both tallied extra-base hits in their only hits of the game.
-Bulldog starter Jordan Carr was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Four Asheville relievers – Tyler Hughes, Adam Spracklin, Nick Boyles and Brett Hyers – combined to finish the final 4 2/3 innings. Presbyterian reliever Michael Trebendis earned the win after his 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.
-Presbyterian used a game-opening double to score first in the top of the first inning before Asheville answered with two runs of its own off the bat of Owens, who delivered his two-out, two-run double to give the Bulldogs the lead. The visitors tied the game in the second with a solo home run.
-The Bulldogs regained the lead in the third inning on Tietjen's two-run homer well over the left field wall before Presbyterian cut the advantage to one run in the top of the fourth via a RBI sacrifice fly.
-Presyterian plated the six runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good, highlighted by a two-run homer, and RBI single and an RBI double.
-Asheville responded in the bottom of the sixth inning, posting three runs, two on Kobos' single, to cut the deficit to two runs before the visitors posted four runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run single, an RBI double and an RBI single. The Bulldogs chipped into the lead with Smith's solo home run to begin the bottom of the sixth, but would get no closer.
