ASHEVILLE– The UNC Asheville Men's Tennis team welcomes Gardner-Webb University to the Asheville Racquet Club in a battle of the Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 23 at 2:30 p.m.

 

NOTABLES

Head-to-Head: Asheville and GWU faced off last in the 2015 season. Gardner-Webb hosted the battle of the Bulldogs in Boiling Springs, North Carolina as the last match in Big South Conference regular season play. Asheville came out with a 4-3 victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs on their home court. The Bulldogs took the doubles point, winning in the first and second flights for a 1-0 start. Asheville's Josh Swindler, Daniel Kripak and Thomas Orestis-Panoulas each contributed singles wins to give Asheville the 4-3 victory.

 

Last Time Out: The Bulldogs' last match against the Spartans of USC Upstate was this past Saturday, March 19 at the Asheville Racquet Club. The Bulldogs suffered a close 4-3 loss to move them to a record of 3-3 at home in 2016. Asheville's three points came from three singles wins by Swindler, Panoulas and Henry Patten.

 

Top Dog:  Freshman, Henry Patten has amassed the most singles wins for Asheville with eight victories so far this season, collecting the majority of his wins for the Bulldogs in flight three. Panoulas is just behind Patten with seven singles wins the 2016 season.

On the Match- “Every time we play Gardner-Webb we know it's going to be a great match. We have gone back and forth over the last few years, so we will have to come out firing.”

 

UP NEXT

-Following Saturday's match, the Bulldogs will host a double-header with women's tennis, as both teams will take on the Campbell Camels. The women's match will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a picnic tailgate for friends, family and alumni beginning at 12:30 p.m. before the men's match at 2:00 p.m.
