2015-16 Big South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships

BLACKSBURG – The UNC Asheville Track and Field teams travel to Blacksburg, Virginia to compete in the 2015-16 Big South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
NOTABLES
Day One of the competition for the men will open on Friday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m. with the Heptathlon 60 meter dash. Other notable events for the Bulldogs on day one for the men's side will include three other heptathlon events (long Jump, shot put and weight throw), Men's Long Jump, 3,000 meter run, 800 meter trails, Men's High Jump finals, and the Distance Medley Relay.
On the women's side, the first competition of the championships will be the Pentathlon 60 meter hurdles at 10:30 a.m. Events to watch for the women on day one include the Women's 60 meter hurdle trails, Women's Long Jump finals, 3,000 meter run, 400 meter prelim and the Distance Medley Relay.
Bulldogs on the Bubble- There are two relay teams and three individuals on the bubble of becoming All-Conference finishers at this weekend's meet. The Men's Distance Medley Relay team is ranked third in the BSC standings going into the weekend with a time of 10:28.79. The Women's DMR is not far behind, ranked fourth with a time of 12:27.69. On the men's side, Hunter Koike is ranked fourth in the Heptathlon with 4,481 points and Dominic Collichio, is ranked fifth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:35.01. For the women, Sarah Heisner is ranked fifth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:21.95.
First Impressions: Newcomers, Kayli Nichols and Camden Coble with attend their first BSC Championships. Nichols, a sophomore transfer, is ranked sixth in the Women's 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.05, and 12th in the 400 meter Dash with a time of 58.27. Coble, a freshman from De Pere, Wisconsin, is ranked sixth in the Men's High Jump with a mark of 1.95 meters.
Watchdogs on Day One: Athletes to watch on day one for the men's team include Koike in the Heptathlon, Chase Stevens in the Men's 800 Meter trials, Coble in the Men's High Jump, Collichio in the 3,000 meter run, and the Distance Medley Relay. Bulldogs to watch on day one on the women's team include Nichols in 60 Hurdles and 400 meter run, Erin Dalton and Heisner in the 3,000 meter run, and the women's Distance Medley Relay.

On Virginia Tech- “Safe to say we are all really excited about this weekend. We're headed back to Virginia Tech, and we always love going to their 200 meter bank track. They have a great facility for the Championships and we're hoping it will help us bring back some good marks.”
On the Dogs- “I'm happy to say that everyone seems to be pretty relaxed and ready to go this weekend. I think that when we head over to the track for our shake out everyone will start to get even more excited.”
On the Championships- “We're looking forward to a good weekend, with some good marks form our athletes. We're hoping to beat our ranking based on the point totals coming into the Championships, and pick up a couple of wins and All-Conference finishes on the way.”
