ATHENS – The UNC Asheville Women's Swim team finished their fourth CCSA Swimming Championships with 506 points, matching their program-best finish from last year of seventh place.

Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins brought home CCSA honors, earning Co-Coach of the Year in her fourth year as Head Coach.

AM Session

 

-Asheville had three Bulldogs qualify for the B final in the 400 Yard Individual Medley. Stephanie Smith turned in a new personal best of 4:32.69 for the 10 seed, Galen Broido as the 14 seed, 4:35.01 and Sydney Vandenburg as the 16 seed, 4:40.39.

 

-In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Emily Werth made the C final in the 20th position with a season-best time of 57.87. She was joined in the prelims by two teammates who achieved personal bests, Katie Brown 59.54 and Carly Emerson 59.64.

 

- In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Alexandra van Dorsten swam a season-best 1:53.78 to enter the C final as the 20th seed. Her teammate, Rachel Van Noordt recorded a new personal best, 1:58.37.

 

-In the 100 Yard Breast Stroke, Asheville sent four out of five swimmers to finals and all five turned in season-best swims. Morgan Rulevich qualified for the A final as the eighth seed with a time of 1:04.16. Alessandra Troncoso (10 seed) in the B final with a time of 1:04.63, she is joined in the B final by teammate, Shannon Kennedy (16 seed) with a time of 1:06.39. Carly Emerson qualified for the C final (24 seed) with a new personal best of 1:08.49.

 

-Asheville had two swimmers qualify for the C final in the 100 Yard Backstroke with season bests, Emily Werth (14 seed) with at time of 58.00, and Jessica Woolfe (20 seed) with a time of 50.89.

 

PM Session

-In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Morgan Rulevich placed second and achieved the first NCAA Provisional (B) Cut in Asheville program history with her time of 2:15.45. Rulevich's time also earns her new team and freshman records in the event.

 

- Galen Broido placed ninth in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with at time of 17:11.55, besting her prelim time by two seconds. Asheville's Allie Snyder placed 15th with a time of 17:29.57.

 

-In the B final of the 200 Yard Backstroke, Asheville's Stephanie Smith placed 10th with a time of 2:04.60. Finishing close behind her in 11th place was teammate, Emily Werth recording a time of 2:05.95.

 

- In the C final of the 200 Yard Back, freshman Emma Nelson placed 22nd with a time of 2:09.80. Sophomore, Elizabeth Murray landed in the 23rd spot with a time of 2:10.29.

 

-To close out the Championships, the Bulldogs turned in a sixth place finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of Morgan Rulevich, Jessica Woolfe, Reid Jackson and Alexandra van Dorsten turned in a time of 3:30.98.

 

-Asheville saw personal bests from eleven different swimmers in the final session of the CCSA Championships.

 

 

QUOTABLES FROM HEAD COACH ELIZABETH LYKINS

On the Meet- "The teamwork was exceptional over these last four days. Together they earned multiple lifetime bests throughout the Championships, broke four team records and three team relay records. We also took down two freshmen individual records in the 50 Free and 200 Breaststroke."

 

On Morgan Rulevich- "A major highlight of the meet was the program's first ever NCAA Provisional Cut in the 200 Breaststroke by Morgan Rulevich. Her swim will not soon be forgotten and she will forever hold a place in the record books."

 

On Co-Coach of the Year Honors- "It is an honor to be recognized by the CCSA as  Co-Coach of the Year amongst such a strong field of candidates. I am thrilled to be rewarded by my peers for the successes that Asheville swimming enjoyed during this Championship meet."
