2015-16 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming and Diving Championships

End Day Three

Location: University of Georgia's Gabrielsen Natatorium / Athens, Ga.

 

ATHENS – The UNC Asheville Women's Swim team moved up a place to seventh in team competition with 323 total points. Of 26 swimmers in preliminaries, The Bulldogs had 17 swimmers with season-bests, five with personal bests, and eleven that made finals.

 

NOTABLES

AM Session

 

-Asheville had three Bulldogs qualify for the B final in the 400 Yard Individual Medley. Stephanie Smith turned in a new personal best of 4:32.69 for the 10 seed, Galen Broido in fourteenth 4:35.01 and Sydney Vandenburg in sixteenth 4:40.39.

 

-In the 100 Yard Fly, Emily Werth made the C final in the 20th position with a season-best time of 57.87. She was joined in the prelims by two teammates who achieved personal bests, Katie Brown 59.54 and Carly Emerson 59.64.

 

-The Bulldog's had another swimmer qualify for the C final, Alexandra van Dorsten swam a season-best 1:53.78 in the 200 Yard Freestyle to enter the evening finals as the 20th seed. Her teammate, Rachel Van Noordt recorded a new personal best, 1:58.37.

 

-In the 100 Yard Breast Stroke Asheville sent four Bulldogs to finals and all five turned in season best swims. Morgan Rulevich qualified for the A final as the eighth seed with a time of 1:04.16, Alessandra Troncoso (10 seed) in the B final with a time of 1:04.63, she is joined by teammate Shannon Kennedy (16 seed) with a time of 1:06.39. Carly Emerson qualified for the C final (24 seed) with a new personal best of 1:08.49.

 

-Asheville had two swimmers qualify for the C final in the 100 Yard Backstroke with season bests, Emily Werth (14 seed) with at time of 58.00, and Jessica Woolfe (20 seed) with a time of 50.89.

 

PM Session

- The Bulldogs had eleven swimmers make it to finals in addition to the 400 Yard Medley Relay, one swimmer in the A final, six in the B finals and four in the C finals.

 

-  Morgan Rulevich provided a new personal best of 1:03.03 which earned her fourth place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke finals. This is the highest finish for Asheville in a Conference event since the program's first year.

 

- Bulldogs sophomore, Emily Werth swam a new team record of 57.65 in the 100 Yard Fly C final, earning her 19th place.

On Day Two- “A lot of excitement for the Bulldogs today, we are pleased with the way our girls came to compete. We saw a lot of new season and lifetime bests, and that's what we want to see this time of year. Tomorrow will be a big day for us as well. We are looking to race fast and close out the championships on a high note.”

 

UP NEXT

Tomorrow, Asheville completes the final day of the CCSA Championships. The first event will be the 200 Yard Backstroke prelims starting at 10:00 a.m.
