Bulldogs Turn in Top Times in Day Two of CCSA Championships

ATHENS – The UNC Asheville Women's Swimming team finished the third session of the CCSA Championships with 173 points. Asheville trails seventh place North Florida by only 15 points.
NOTABLES
AM Session
-Asheville had three Bulldogs qualify for finals in the morning session. Galen Broido in the 500 Yard Freestyle as the 17th seed with a time of 5:05.41. Morgan Rulevich and Alexandra van Dorsten will both return for finals in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Van Dorsten as the 21st seed with a new personal best of 24 seconds flat, and Rulevich as the ninth seed with a new personal best of 23.67. Rulevich's time is also a new Asheville team and freshman record in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
-Two Bulldogs set new personal bests in the 200 Yard Individual Medley: Emma Nelson (2:11.92), and Stephanie Smith (2:09.64).
-Asheville brought their A game in the 500 Yard Freestyle, delivering season bests from Sydney Vandenburg (5:11.60) and Brittany Thomas (5:12.43) and personal bests from Rachel Van Noordt (5:16.87) and Abby Cassario (5:20.23).
-The Bulldogs also made improvements in the 50 Yard Freestyle with season bests from Jessica Woolfe (24.48) and Alessandra Troncoso (24.57). The Blue & White also saw personal bests from Hannah Stuart (25.25), Elizabeth Conte (24.95) and Shannon Kennedy (24.77).
PM Session
- In the finals of the 50 Yard Freestyle, Mrogan Rulevich won the B heat and placed ninth overall with a time of 23.33. Rulevich broke her own team and freshman records in the 50 Free which she set in the prelims.
- In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Senior Galen Broido bettered her preliminary time by three seconds, clocking a time of 5:02.60 to win the C heat of finals.
- Asheville's team of Rulevich, Reid Jackson, Shannon Kennedy and Alexandra van Dorsten posted a time of 1:35.46 in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, a new team record for the Bulldogs. Van Dorsten swam anchor for the Bulldogs and clocked a 23.21 split (a new Asheville team record).

On Day Two- “We had a bit of a slower start today, but we were happy to end on a high note with many team and personal records falling today. We like to refer to tomorrow as moving day. We will have more swimmers in the pool with new opportunities to score. The evening session will end with the 400 Yard Medley Relay which we are really looking forward to."
