ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville placed four players in double figures as the Bulldogs downed Tennessee Tech 77-65 in women's basketball action at Kimmel Arena Friday afternoon.

Asheville was led by junior guard Khaila Webb's 20 points. She was 7-of-11 from the field and added six assists with no turnovers. Tianna Knuckles and Bre Fitzgerald finished with 18 points each. Ja'Da Brayboy pumped in 10 points.

The win was the Bulldogs' third straight and improved their record to 3-1. Tennessee Tech fell to 1-5 on the season. Yaktavia Hickson led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 23 points. Lindsey Jennings chipped in 13 points. Hannah Goolsby finished with 12 points.

Tennessee Tech dominated the first part of the game and raced to an early 18-8 lead before the Bulldogs scored the next 19 points at the end of the first and start of the second quarters to take control of the contest.

Webb's trey to end the first period to cut the Tennessee Tech lead to 18-16. Fitzgerald scored seven of Asheville's first 10 points of the quarter to push the Bulldog lead to 27-18. Knuckles added a long trey to complete the Asheville run.

The Bulldogs got five points from Knuckles in the final two minutes of the half to help give Asheville a 41-27 halftime lead.

In the second half, Asheville built a 20-point lead midway through the third quarter at 61-41. The Golden Eagles carved into the Bulldog lead and crept to within 73-63 with 1:23 left on Jennings three-point play. But a basket from Webb and two free throws from the junior in the final minute sealed Asheville's first ever win over Tennessee Tech in five tries.

The home team shot 47 percent (26-of-55) from the field for the game and knocked down 50 percent of its three-point attempts (7-of-14). Asheville also shot a solid 78 percent (18-of-23) from the charity stripe.

QUOTABLES

"Tennessee Tech played us extremely tough and we need to play more consistently for four quarters.  We had some kids step up in this game when we needed it.  Ja'Da Brayboy played like a senior point guard tonight and Khaila Webb stepped up and hit big shots after having to make some adjustments on the defensive end at the beginning of the game.  It's also tough for our opponents when we have Bre coming off the bench with a lot of energy on the offensive end.  I am proud of our team for getting the result when the flow of the game was stopped with multiple fouls on both teams.  I appreciate all of the fan support on the day after the holiday."—Head Coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick
