Bulldogs Grab First Win of the Season, 73-57, Over USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG,S.C. —The UNC Asheville men's basketball team earned their first win of the season with a 73-57 triumph over USC Upstate at the Hodge Center Thursday night.
The most telling part of the game was the fact that the Bulldogs forced the Spartans to 16 turnovers and converted these into 21 points. After a poor shooting night last outing, the team shot 9 of 23 (39.1%) from behind the arc.
Junior guard Ahmad Thomas led the squad in scoring for the third time this season with 18 points. Thomas also grabbed 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Freshman guard Macio Teague also led the way with 16 points and 3 rebounds. Junior forward Alec Wnuk also scored in the double digits for the Bulldogs with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
The bench also stepped up their production tonight scoring 22 points.
NOTABLES
-In forcing 16 turnovers, the Bulldogs recorded 8 steals and 1 block.
-Asheville won the battle down low, outscoring the Spartans 30-16 in points in the paint.
-The Bulldogs went 27 of 56 (48.2 %) from the field and 9 of 23 (39.1%) behind the arc.
-Asheville shot 14 free throws throughout the game and made 10 of them for a 71.4% average at the line.
-Will Weeks and Giacomo Zilli also provided points down low, both scoring 8 points.
