ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's volleyball team upset the Panthers of High Point University 3-0 at home on Saturday afternoon in their annual Dig Pink Game. The Panthers were ranked third in Big South Conference play with a BSC record of 5-1 coming into today's match.
The Bulldogs won the first set 25-22 behind four kills from senior middle blocker Madison Vaughn. Gaining momentum, Asheville delivered a 25-21 win in set two to go up 2-0 on the Panthers heading into the break.
High Point battled back in set three, taking a 24-22 lead in the final strech. Unable to produce the final point, Asheville climbed back into the match off of a kill from Cara Guthrie and an ace from Kailey Hackett. The Bulldogs would take the set and the match, 27-25.
NOTABLES
- Senior Shelby Erickson delivered a match-high 13 kills with zero errors on 26 attempts to hit .500 on the evening, her most efficient match this season.
-Asheville out-blocked High Point 10-5 in three sets with senior Madison Vaughn picking up a season-high five blocks.
-Libero Madisen Zyburt and Guthrie each totaled 11 digs to add to Asheville's 40 total.
-The Bulldogs hit at least .200 as a team in each set, recording an attacking percentage of .250 in set three.
-Hackett (19) and Carter Kennedy (40) combined for 34 total assists.
