ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team got its first taste of competition on Friday afternoon, testing each other in the Blue & White Intersquad.
THE TURNING POINT
Friday allowed Asheville's 12 freshman – nearly half of their 28-member roster – to get their first taste of collegiate swimming.
NOTABLES
-The meet started with a win for the Blue squad in the 200 Medley Relay with Reid Jackson, Alessandra Troncoso, Emily Werth and Elizabeth Murray.
-In the second race, the 500 free kept things close as Galen Broido of the White team won the event but Blue took second through fourth for a 10-9 split of points.
-At the first break, the score remained close. But when Ale Sanchez won the 200 fly and 200 back during the middle segment of the meet, the White team took a lead and never looked back.
-Freshmen Morgan Rulevich won the 200 breast, 100 free, 100 breast and was part of the winning 800 free relay.
-Other individual winners were Alexandra van Dorsten, Stephanie Smith, Rachel Van Noordt and Jessica Woolfe.

UP NEXT
-Following today's meet, the Bulldogs open the season at the All North Carolina Invitational on October 2 and 3 in Greensboro. They return home to host VMI on October 9.
