Women's Soccer Announces 2015 Schedule

06.17.2015 | Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will play 10 home matches this fall as part of their 19-game 2015 schedule, released this afternoon.

The Bulldogs enjoyed their best season under now-sixth year head coach Michelle Demko last fall, finishing with a 10-9-1 overall record as they posted their first winning season and the most wins for the program since 2006 campaign.

The 2015 campaign will feature five non-conference and five Big South Conference matchups at Greenwood Field, as the Bulldogs will open the season with three home games.

“This is an exciting time to be in our women's soccer program. We are coming off  one of our best seasons since 2006 that saw many benchmark awards including a winning season, returning to the Big South tournament, Caroline Houser being named Big South Freshman of the Year and senior Amanda Dailor breaking the school record for assists. The expectation for 2015 is to build off our success and propel this program forward in the Big South Conference,” said Demko.

“We will need to be prepared to come right out of the gate so we can build off last year's success. Our goals are higher this year so every player and staff member has a responsibility to set the standard during preseason that will carry us through November.”

Asheville's season opener will come on Friday, August 21 when they welcome The Citadel to town, and the opening weekend will continue on Sunday, August 23 when the Bulldogs entertain Eastern Kentucky University.

Regional rival Western Carolina comes to town on August 27 before Asheville hits the road for the first time on August 30 to face Francis Marion University. Following a home contest against Alabama A&M on September 4, the Bulldogs will play a pair of neutral site games, against VMI and UT Chattanooga, on September 11 and 13 in Boiling Springs, N.C.

A home match against USC Upstate comes on September 19 before Asheville opens Big South play with two road games, at Winthrop on September 23 and at Campbell on September 26.

The Bulldogs will host three-straight BSC contests at Greenwood Field against Presbyterian College (Sept. 30), Liberty (Oct. 3) and Charleston Southern (Oct. 7) before a road matchup at Radford on October 10.

Following a home match against High Point on October 14, three of the Bulldogs' final four regular season contests are on the road, playing at Coastal Carolina (Oct. 17) and a non-conference matchup against South Carolina State (Oct. 21) before returning home to take on Longwood on October 24.

The final regular season contest comes on October 27 at Gardner-Webb before Big South Tournament play begins on October 30.
