Bulldogs Return Home to Host Wofford Tonight

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team returns home tonight for the first time in 15 days as the Bulldogs welcome the Wofford Terriers to Greenwood Field for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

 

 

The Bulldogs (16-17) are coming off of a 6-3 victory at East Tennessee State on Tuesday night, as Kyle Towles led the way with a pair of solo home runs.

 

 

Tonight's meeting against Wofford (24-11) will mark the third meeting between the two teams this season and first in Asheville, with the Bulldogs winning 3-2 back in February and grabbing a 9-2 win two weeks ago in the first game of their nine-game road trip.

 

 

Wofford comes to town after dropping their last two games on the road against Western Carolina this weekend, while they are 1-4 in their last five games overall. The Terriers are 3-6 on the road so far this season.

 

 

Freshman right-hander Tyler Hughes will make his first collegiate start tonight for the Bulldogs. He has made 11 appearances out of the bullpen this year with a 1-0 record and a 3.50 ERA in 18 total innings of work. Hughes has struck out allow eight runs (seven earned) while striking out 16 batters he has faced, with opponents are hitting .269 against him.

 

 

Wofford will hand the ball to Jordan Accetta, who is 1-2 on the year with three starts and nine total appearances. In 21 innings of work, the right-hander has a 5.57 ERA and opponents are hitting .308 against him. Accetta got the start for the Terriers two weeks ago against the Bulldogs, tossing five innings and giving up four runs in route to the loss.

Tommy Houmard has reached base in 21 consecutive games.

Hunter Bryant is sixth in the Big South in home runs with six.

Nick Schavone is tied for first in the Big South in saves with seven.

Lucas Clarke leads the Big South in starts with nine.

Asheville is 10-2 when scoring six or more runs this season.

The Bulldogs are jumping out in front early, outscoring opponents 54-30 in the opening two innings.

Asheville is 13-1 when leading after six innings this year.
