Men's Tennis Falls to Coastal on Senior Day

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team jumped out to a fast start, but were overcome by Coastal Carolina, 5-2, on senior day, Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
Asheville falls to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Coastal Carolina improves to 8-5 on the year and 3-1 in the Big South.
The Bulldogs captured the doubles point with a pair of wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Thomas Panoulas and John Schubel grabbed an 8-6 victory on court two, while Daniel Kripak and Josh Swindler were triumphant on court three by the same 8-6 score.
Singles play was controlled by the Chanticleers who won five of six matches. Kripak picked up the only singles victory of the day for the Blue & White, defeating Phillipe Tsangarides, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 at the top flight. With the victory, Kripak improves to 9-6 overall in singles.
At the second flight, Panoulas was defeated by Kaue Pereira in the only match that finished in straight-sets. The Bulldogs dropped each of the remaining matches in three-sets. Swindler fell at No. 3, Alex Croker was defeated at No. 4, Brett Landau was downed on court five, while Schubel lost in the sixth flight.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian College in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
