ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Alex Croker picked up his third consecutive singles win and 10th of the season to lead the UNC Asheville men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Liberty University on Friday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.

 

Asheville improves to 10-4 overall with the win and 2-2 in conference play, while Liberty falls to 10-7 and 3-1 in league matches.

 

The doubles team of Alex Croker and Brett Landau continued their strong play this season, picking up their ninth victory of the year, by defeating Dillon Segur and Diego Castano 8-4 at the top flight.  Daniel Kripak and Josh Swindler secured the point at No. 3 with an 8-4 victory. 

 

Liberty battled back to take 2-1 lead after victories on court two and court three.  Thomas Panoulas lost to Sam Matheson, 6-0, 6-0 at the second flight and Swindler was beaten by Jorge Azuero 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. 

 

The Bulldogs took over following those losses by winning the remaining four singles matches.  Kripak started the rally, grabbing a three-set victory at the top flight (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) over Segur.  John Schubel continued to build the momentum for the Blue & White, defeating David Bush 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6. 

 

Alex Croker clinched the match on court four by defeating Egon Samaai, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.  Croker is now 10-3 on the year in singles play.  Landau rounded out the match with a three-set victory over Castano at the fifth flight.

 

The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday when they host Coastal Carolina at 1:00 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club.  Seniors Will Goldberg and John Schubel will be honored at their last home match for the Blue & White.
