CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Daniel Kripak earned gritty three-set victory in top flight singles action, but it was not enough for the UNC Asheville men's tennis team who was overcome by the Charlotte 49ers, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
Asheville falls to 8-3 on the year, while Charlotte improves to 11-2 overall.
In doubles play, the 49ers earned 8-4 and 8-3 victories over Alex Croker and Brett Landau at No. 1 and Thomas Panoulas and John Schubel at No. 3. Josh Swindler and Daniel Kripak's match on court two was tied at 6-6 when the point was decided.
The Blue & White fell behind 3-0 after Schubel and Landau each fell in straight-sets at No. 5 and No. 6. Swindler gave the Bulldogs hope with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Alex Calott at No. 4. However, the match was decided shortly after on court two where J Massalle Ferrer topped Thomas Panoulas in straight-sets.
Despite having already lost the match, Kripak pulled out a 7-5, 5-7, 10-7 victory at the top flight over Charlotte's Vikram Hundal. The win improves Kripak's overall singles record to 6-5 on the year. The match concluded on court three where Alex Croker dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision.
