Men's Tennis Fall at Winthrop, 6-1

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team suffered only its second loss of the season to the Winthrop Eagles, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at Memorial Courts.
Asheville falls to 8-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in Big South league play, while Winthrop improves to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The Blue & White fell behind early, narrowly falling at all three flights to concede the doubles point. The closes contested match was at No. 3 where Daniel Kripak and Josh Swindler fell, 8-7.
Alex Croker improved to 7-1 on the year at the fourth flight, giving the Bulldogs their lone singles victory, coming from behind to defeat Michael Chen 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. At the top flight, Kripak lost a tight contest to Tremayne Mitchell, 7-5, 6-4.
Thomas Panoulas dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 2, while Josh Swindler was defeated 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. Brett Landau lost 6-4, 6-1 on court five, while John Schubel dropped his first singles match of the year, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 6. Schubel is now 5-1 on the year.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday when they travel to Charlotte to face the 49ers in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
