SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A solo home run by James Plaisted in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled the unbeaten Wofford College baseball team to a 2-1 win over UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon at Russell C. King Field.
The Terriers improved to 7-0 on the season. Asheville starter Joe Zayatz was brilliant in defeat for the Bulldogs (2-4). He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out a career-high eight batters while walking just one.
Asheville trailed 1-0 before tying the game in the fourth inning. Lucas Owens hit a two-out homer over the right-field wall to tie the game at 1-1.
Plaisted homer's in the sixth put the Terriers in front for good at 2-1. Three Wofford relievers were able to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard as Asheville's two-game winning streak came to an end.
UNC Asheville plays at North Carolina Central on Tuesday before returning home to face Western Carolina on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
