Bulldogs Fall 69-65 to Presbyterian College

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Presbyterian College scored the final six points of the game to slip past UNC Asheville 69-65 in Big South Conference men's basketball action Thursday night at Kimmel Arena.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs (13-12, 9-5 BSC) out of a tie for first place in the Big South Conference standings. Asheville drops into fourth place with loss behind High Point, Radford and Charleston Southern.
Andrew Rowsey led the Dogs with a game-high 24 points, while Jaleel Roberts added 12 points and four blocked shots.
PC (9-17, 5-8 BSC) was led by freshman DeSean Murray's 21 points. Jordan Downing and Markus Terry added 11 points each.
Asheville trailed 35-22 at halftime but roared back in the second half behind 21 points from Rowsey. The Bulldogs stormed back to take a 59-54 lead with 4:30 left.
The home team led 65-63 after Will Weeks hit two free throws at the 1:52 mark. Murray tied the game with two free throws at the 1:36 mark.
Downing then had a steal on Asheville's next possession and score on a lay-up at the 58-second mark to give the Blue Hose a 67-65.
The Bulldogs went for the lead on the next possession but Rowsey's three-pointer rimmed in-and-out. Downing was fouled at the 15-second mark and he hit both free throws to push the lead to 69-65.
In the first half, PC took control of the game when the Bulldogs went 1-of-20 from the field in the final 10 minutes of the half. The Blue Hose outscored Asheville 15-2 in the final six minutes to build a 35-22 halftime lead.
UNC Asheville is back in action next Wednesday night when the Bulldogs travel to Big South foe Winthrop at 7 p.m.
