ROCK HILL, S.C. –Winthrop shot 60 percent from the field as the Eagles downed UNC Asheville 91-70 in Big South Conference action Wednesday night at the Winthrop Coliseum.

Jaleel Roberts had a great game for the Bulldogs (13-13, 9-6 BSC) as he scored a career-high 25 points as he went 12-of-12 from the field.  The 12-of-12 performance set both a school and Big South record.

David Robertson added 14 points for the Blue & White. Leading scorer Andrew Rowsey was held to three points. He was slowed by foul trouble in the first half. Freshman guard Kevin Vannatta didn't make the trip due to sickness.

Winthrop (15-11, 10-5 BSC) was led by Keon Moore with a game-high 27 points. Andre Smith finished 14 points. Tevin Prescott chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Eagles shot 60 percent (34-of-57) from the field and sank 11 three-pointers. Asheville had 15 turnovers to just eight for Winthrop. The Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 27-8 in points off turnovers.

“We didn't play nearly well enough to beat a team like Winthrop tonight,” stated Bulldog coach Nick McDevitt. “You can't give up 91 points and expect to win.”

Winthrop dominated the first 10 minutes of the game as the Eagles raced to a 24-12 lead behind the scoring of Prescott and Johnson. The Bulldogs battled back despite Rowsey on the bench with two fouls. Robertson tallied 11 points in the first half and Roberts added nine as the Dogs clawed back to 34-33.

But Winthrop outscored Asheville 12-2 in the final three minutes to push the lead to 46-35.

The Bulldogs rallied early in the second half and closed to 52-45 but Moore hit back-to-back treys to pad the margin to 58-45.

Winthrop continued to pour it on and led by as many as 26 points before setting for the 21-point win.
