ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team closed out the regular season on Saturday night, falling 1-0 to Campbell. The Bulldogs, already in the Big South Championships prior to Saturday's match end up being the tournament's No. 8 seed and will travel to Winthrop on Tuesday night for the quarterfinals.

THE TURNING POINT

Tied at the half, Campbell was able to score the night's only goal in the 55th minute when Bradley Farias was able to get past Bulldog goalkeeper Zak Davis, who had come well out of the box to try and make a play on the ball.

NOTABLES

-Grady Bradshaw led Asheville with three shots, two on goal, while Zach Joens tallied two shots of his own. Eight other Bulldog players notched one shot each.

-The shots turned out even in the match at 13-13. Asheville tallied 11 of their total shots in the opening half, while Campbell recorded nine of their shots in the second half.

-Davis finished with five saves in net for the Bulldogs.

-Looking ahead, Asheville fell 3-2 in overtime at Winthrop in mid-October in the team's regular season meeting. The Bulldogs jumped ahead early on goals by Joens and Joe LaCasto before Winthrop rallied for the final three goals of the night to win in extra time.

QUOTABLES

“Obviously, you'd love to win on Senior Night. Credit to Campbell, they capitalized on a mistake on our part. We were a little unlucky in terms of our attacking opportunities but sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way. Looking ahead, we would have liked to have finished higher in the Big South standings, but I've said from day one that the Big South is very competitive. It will be a great opportunity to play a very good Winthrop team who we gave a good match to earlier this year. Looking forward to getting the guys ready and playing for a championship. That's the goal in college athletics, to participate in the postseason. We continue to improve and I look forward to seeing if we put it all together Tuesday down at Winthrop.” – head coach Mathes Mennell
