ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following two consecutive away meets, the UNC Asheville women's swimming team returns to the Justice Center Pool Saturday morning for an 11 a.m. ET meet with CCSA opponent North Florida. The Bulldogs are coming off a 143-118 dual meet victory over Brenau in their last outing (Oct. 30).
NOTES
- Through three dual meets this season, freshman Morgan Rulevich has claimed four event wins. In the meet against Brenau (Oct. 30), Rulevich set a new program record in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.40. Among the Nov. 5 edition of the CCSA's Top 24 times this season, Rulevich ranks sixth in the 100 yard individual medley (1:01.17), seventh in the 100 yard freestyle (52.78), seventh in the 50 yard butterfly (28.12), seventh in the 200 yard individual medley (2:08.40), and eighth in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:24.08).
- Through two dual meets this season, sophomore Ale Sanchez has claimed first in five events. Among the CCSA, Sanchez ranks fourth in the 50 yard backstroke (28.51) and seventh in the 200 yard backstroke (2:07.61).
- Within the CCSA, senior Galen Broido ranks second in the 1650 yard freestyle (17:31.51), ninth in the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.31) and ninth in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:35.53).
- The Bulldogs have four swimmers ranked in the top 13 among CCSA opponents in the 50 yard backstroke. Freshman Alex Moon (28.46) ranks third, Sanchez is fourth (28.51), freshman Emma Nelson ranks eighth (29.16), and sophomore Elizabeth Murray is 13th (32.64).
- Asheville currently places five swimmers in the top 11 for the 50 yard breaststroke within the CCSA. Senior Alessandra Troncoso leads the way, posting a conference-best time of 31.21. The Bulldogs also round out the event with sophomore Shannon Kennedy (sixth, 33.69), sophomore Carly Emerson (eighth, 33.89), freshman Elizabeth Conte (10th, 35.32), and freshman Sydney Vandenberg (11th, 35.71) placing.
- In the 50 yard butterfly, Asheville has four swimmers within the top nine in the conference. Junior Alexandra van Dorsten is second with a time of 27.10, while Troncoso is sixth (28.05), Rulevich is seventh (28.12) and freshman Haley Bennison ranks ninth (28.69).
- In just its fourth year of existence, Asheville swimming made its first appearance in program history in the national rankings on Oct. 13. Following a strong performance at the North Carolina Invitational to open the season and then a win over VMI (Oct. 9), the Bulldogs came in at No. 40 in CollegeSwimming.com's Oct. 13 Division I Mid-Major Poll.
- Asheville's roster features its highest number of swimmers ever (28) and nearly half are freshmen. The 12-member freshmen group is the largest signing class in program history and gives the Bulldogs considerable depth as they continue to build the program.
- The Bulldogs' two seniors – Galen Broido and Alessandra Troncoso – will be the first two student-athletes in the swimming program's history to join Asheville as freshmen and compete through graduation.
