ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team travels to Atlanta to compete in the three-day Georgia Tech Invitational beginning Thursday, Nov. 19. The Bulldogs (3-1, 2-1 CCSA) picked up an impressive 152-110 dual meet win over CCSA opponent North Florida in their last time out (Nov. 7).
Following this week's competition, the Bulldogs will have nearly a two-month layoff as Asheville's next meet is set for Jan. 9, 2016, when the Bulldogs host Georgia Southern.
NOTES
- Through four dual meets this season, freshman Morgan Rulevich has claimed a team-high seven event wins. In the meet against Brenau (Oct. 30), Rulevich set a new program record in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.40. Among the Nov. 12 edition of the CCSA' Top 24 times this season, Rulevich ranks second in the 50 yard breaststroke (31.94), seventh in the 200 yard individual medley (2:08.40), seventh in the 50 yard butterfly (28.12), eighth in the 100 yard freestyle (52.78), eighth in the 100 yard individual medley (1:01.17), and 10th in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:24.08)
- Through four dual meets this season, sophomore Ale Sanchez has claimed first in six events. Among the CCSA, Sanchez ranks fourth in the 50 yard backstroke (28.51) and seventh in the 200 yard backstroke (2:06.53). Her time of 2:09.49 in the 200 yard butterfly against North Florida (Nov. 7) set a new program record.
- Within the CCSA, senior Galen Broido ranks second in the 1650 yard freestyle (17:31.51), ninth in the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.31) and 10th in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:35.53)
- In just its fourth year of existence, Asheville swimming made its first appearance in program history in the national rankings on Oct. 13. Following a strong performance at the North Carolina Invitational to open the season and then a win over VMI (Oct. 9), the Bulldogs came in at No. 40 in CollegeSwimming.com's Oct. 13 Division I Mid-Major Poll.
- Asheville's roster features its highest number of swimmers ever (27) and nearly half are freshmen. The 12-member freshmen group is the largest signing class in program history and gives the Bulldogs considerable depth as they continue to build the program.
- The Bulldogs' two seniors – Galen Broido and Alessandra Troncoso – will be the first two student-athletes in the swimming program's history to join Asheville as freshmen and compete through graduation.
QUOTE
“This meet is going to feature some elite Division I teams; however, we will also have the opportunity to be competitive with many of the mid-majors in attendance. We look forward to seeing the progress the Bulldogs have made since late August. The team is swimming well and will use this meet as a gauge for where we want to be in February at the conference championships. We are hoping for many season and possible lifetime best times and maybe even a few program records.” - Fourth-year head coach Elizabeth Lykins
