ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team will host its first dual meet of the 2015-16 campaign on Friday afternoon when the Bulldogs welcome fellow CCSA member VMI to Asheville.
Friday's meet will be a Pink Out, with the Bulldogs collecting donations to help support a local charity here in Asheville – Ladies Night Out.
NOTABLES
-The Bulldogs' 400 Relay team and Free Relay team each finished just three seconds shy of the program records in those events last weekend in Greensboro.
-Freshman Morgan Rulevich turned in some top times in several events last weekend in her first collegiate competition.
-Asheville's roster features 28 swimmers – their most ever – and nearly half are freshman. The 12-member freshmen class is the largest signing class in program history and gives the Bulldogs considerable depth.
-The Bulldogs' two seniors – Galen Broido and Alessandra Troncoso – will be the first two student-athletes to join Asheville as freshmen and compete through graduation.
-Today's meet is the first of four regular season home meets this season for Asheville. The Bulldogs will have one more meet during the fall semester (Nov. 7) and a pair of meets after the calendar turns over to 2016 (Jan. 6 and Jan. 30).
QUOTABLES
“We are excited to kick off the dual meet season with a home competition. Justice Center Pool provides an intimate atmosphere to host meets where fans are close to the action and every seat has a good view. The team is looking forward to our Pink Out meet to recognize those who battle breast cancer and who have lost their fights.” - Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins
UP NEXT
- Following Friday's meet, the Bulldogs close out competition with a pair of road meets, first at Campbell on October 24 and then against Brenau on October 30. Asheville returns home on November 7 when they host North Florida.
